The inspiration for the metal phase of GRITLab has been amassing for some time but there were some noteworthy standouts that really convinced me to make the plunge. The first is Sherline – a local company that makes fantastic miniature machine tools. The other was Clickspring – a guy that produces beautiful machining videos and whose youTube channel is practically a roommate.
Before we get started, these machines are EXTREMELY dangerous. You must be approved to use these machines before you even lay a finger on them. Do not, under any circumstances, use these machines without adult supervision.
Some useful media and videos about general machining:
- Clickspring – amazingly produced videos and plans using the same exact equipment we have!
- Tubal Cain (mrpete222) – his online videos may be dry but they are plentiful and PACKED with information.
- MiniLathe.com – A little old and basic but a great introduction to machine tools.
